At Innerspace Counseling, we are committed to providing high-quality mental health care for individuals of all ages. As part of our ongoing mission to support children, adolescents, and adults through various levels of care, we are excited to announce the launch of our new Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) specifically designed for younger teens aged 12-14.
This middle school PHP will offer structured, intensive support for teens who need a higher level of care than traditional outpatient therapy or our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). We recognize that mental health needs differ from person to person, which is why we offer multiple treatment options tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.
Understanding the Levels of Care: PHP vs. IOP
Determining the right level of care is a crucial step in ensuring that each adolescent receives the support they need. At Innerspace Counseling, we provide a free clinical screening to assess each teen’s mental health needs and recommend the appropriate level of care.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for Middle School Teens (Ages 12-14)
Our new middle school PHP is a higher level of care designed for teens experiencing significant mental health challenges that interfere with daily functioning. This structured, therapeutic program takes place five days a week and provides intensive support in a safe, compassionate environment.
Comprehensive Treatment Approach: Our PHP includes group therapy rooted in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), individual therapy, family therapy, medication management, and collaboration with schools and outside providers.
Academic Support through LearnWell: Since PHP requires missing school during the day, we incorporate LearnWell, a program that helps students stay on track with schoolwork while focusing on their mental health.
A Step Up in Care: PHP is designed for adolescents who need more intensive support than IOP can provide but do not require hospitalization.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Middle School Teens (Ages 12-14)
For teens who need structured support but can still manage some daily activities, our middle school IOP provides a step-down level of care. IOP meets three days a week after school, allowing teens to receive therapy while maintaining their regular school routine.
Similar Therapeutic Approach: Like PHP, our IOP includes DBT-based group therapy, individual therapy, medication management, and family therapy.
Flexible Scheduling: Since IOP occurs in the evenings, teens can continue attending school and participating in their daily activities while still receiving the support they need.
Designed for Teens with Moderate Mental Health Needs: IOP is best for younger teens who require structured therapy but do not need the intensive daily support of PHP.
What Do PHP and IOP Include?
Whether a younger teen is in PHP or IOP, both programs provide essential therapeutic interventions to help them navigate mental health challenges. Each program includes:
Group Therapy: Focused on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), helping teens build essential coping skills, regulate emotions, and manage stress.
Individual Therapy: One-on-one sessions to address personal concerns, develop coping strategies, and work through thoughts and feelings.
Medication Management: A psychiatrist oversees medication if needed, ensuring the best treatment plan for each individual.
Family Therapy & Support: Mental health struggles impact the whole family, which is why we provide regular family therapy sessions and collaborate with parents/guardians.
Coordination with Schools & Providers: Our team works closely with school counselors, therapists, and other healthcare providers to ensure a seamless treatment experience.
Who Determines the Right Level of Care?
At Innerspace Counseling, every adolescent seeking care undergoes a free screening with a licensed clinician. This screening helps determine whether PHP or IOP is the most appropriate treatment option based on the severity of mental health symptoms, daily functioning, and overall needs.
We Continue to Offer a Full Range of Programs
In addition to our new middle school PHP, we continue to offer a wide range of programs for children, teens, and adults, ensuring that every individual can access the right level of support:
